Description:

Being a part of the Academic and Career Advising team is a wonderful experience. Working in this office takes patience, understanding, inclusiveness, and positivity. As you will encounter many SUU students in this position it is imperative that you are kind and respectful.

You are the first point of contact for students trying to meet with academic and career advisors. You need to be able to ask for and obtain information from students—or whomever else you speak with—in a cordial manner, while also not giving out private information to anyone but the intended. Many people will call in looking for advice on subjects that don’t necessarily pertain to the services this department offers and you will need to know where to point them for the help they need. This will allow you to become well-acquainted with other offices on campus. Know that this is a fast-paced work environment with multiple duties and the occasional side project.

Qualifications:

SUU students applying to be a Student Office Assistant in Academic and Career Advising must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be in good standing with the university, both in conduct and academics.
  • Be available to work for one year (September 2020-April 2021).
  • Basic computer skills as well as efficiency in Microsoft word and Google applications.
  • Have a willingness to learn, communicate effectively, and have competent office etiquette.
  • Be respectful, understanding, and able to deescalate stressful situations.
  • Have the ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently.
  • Feel comfortable talking with people over the phone and in-person.
